ESSAYS
If you are not checking out eachothers blogspot ..... you should be. Now that some essays have been written some of your classmates are doing a fantastic job. Definitely check out Wendy's blogspot. Her essays really are flawless. Nothing is missing, and some of the descriptions are poetic.
EKPHRASES (DESCRIPTION PIECE)
It was great to see you all at the muesum on Saturday. I had a fantastic time. I hope you were each successful at getting your post cards and are diligently working on your EKPHRASES.
First you choose a 2-d object to describe. Give consideration to content - it is representational or non-representational? Choose something relatively obscure since we will be paring up in class to do the REVERSE EKPHRASES. The success of the reverse ekphrases depends upon the other person's having no prior knowledge of your chosen image. (The "Mona Lisa", for example, would never work - too familiar to everyone.
You will want to craft a careful description of your image - which may exhaust your word count. The objective....translate the visual into the verbal.
Write a 500-600 word description of your image (typed, double spaced). Use concrete language to create a vivid picture in the reader's mind ("rose" not "flower"; "robin" not "bird") Rich, sensory detail will increase the resolution of your description.
Bring the following materials to class: your EKPHRASES, a reproduction of your object/image, some computer printer paper and come crayons, color pencils or markers to share.
